Soya sauce braised chicken wings

Several weeks ago, saw this recipe on a blog that I wanted to try. Tonight finally managed to try the recipe that I adapted from http://goo.gl/Zvh5ux

Had to adapt purely because I do not have some of the ingredients as well as to custom to my family meal preference. The chicken turns out pretty similar and my family loved the chicken. So here is my adapted version of the recipe. Because I did only had 1 hour to prepare I opted out from using the slow cooker instead braised it in the wok.

Ingredients:

  1. 10 chicken wings cut into into pieces
  2. 3 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
  3. 5 cloves of garlic smashed
  4. 2 sprigs of spring onion cut into 1″ length
  5. 3 slices of ginger cut in 1″ length
  6. 2 tbsp olive oil
  7. 1 lump of rock sugar
  8. 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (to be use to thicken the gravy towards the end)

Sauce:

  1. 3 tbsp light soya sauce
  2. 3 tbsp dark soya sauce
  3. 1.5cups of water (if you have chicken broth, it would be great as per the original recipe, I did not had it and did not had time to prepare so I opt using water only)

Seasoning:

  1. Dash of salt
  2. Dash of pepper

Method:

  1. Heat the oil and sauté ginger and garlic until fragrant
  2. Add chicken wings and the cooking wine. Stir fry for a while and cook for about 5 minutes
  3. Add in the sauce ingredients and rock sugar
  4. Cook in high heat for 15 minutes
  5. Decrease the heat to low and braised for 30 minutes
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  7. Thicken the gravy with the cornstarch mixture
  8. Stir in the spring onions for about 5 minutes
  9. Service hot and you may garnish with sesame seed and spring onion if you have those items
