Balsamic Vinegar Pork Trotter

I have a bottle of Balsamic Vinegar that has not been used for a while so tonight decided to cook Pork Trotter with it. Sour with a hint of sweetness, I am surprised that my kids actually loved the dish. The simple recipe as below :


  • 500gm pork trotter chopped into large pieces  
  • 2 liter of water 
  • 4 cloves of garlic crushed  
  • 2 pieces of bay leave  
  • 1 piece of rock sugar  
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar + 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar  
  • 3 tablespoon of olive oil

Method :

  1. Bring the 2 liter of water to boil and blanch the pork trotter for 10 minutes 
  2. Remove and set aside the pork trotter. The water used to blanch is no longer required
  3. In the pan, heat up the olive oil
  4. Add in the garlic and stir-fry until fragrant
  5. Add in the bay leaves and stir-fry for a while
  6. Add in the pork trotter and stir-fry for 3 minutes
  7. Add in the 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar 
  8. Stir till the vinegar is half of the original portion. Make sure all the meat are coated with the vinegar
  9. Add in the water 
  10. Bring to boil and then add in the rock sugar
  11. Bring to boil on high heat for at least 10 minutes
  12. Bring the fire down to low and braised covered for about 60 minutes until the pork trotter is tender
  13. Bring up the fire to high and add in the last 1/2 of balsamic vinegar
  14. Bring to boil and quickly off the fire
  15. Dish up and serve hot with rice
