Winter Wonderland @ Hoshino Resorts Tomamu

Hokkaido (北海道), the most northern part of Japan’s main island is popular for its natural hot springs, volcanoes as well as various ski resorts catering for different clientele. While Niseko, Rusutsu and Furano are some of the more popular ski resorts, we decided to check out Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU (星野リゾート トマム) given that they have a wide varieties of activities that are able to cater for all ages member of the travelling group. This is definitely a more family oriented resort as they have activities catering to young kids all the way up to the older generations.

Advance reservation is required for this popular resort. Reservation can be made from their website : Hoshino Resorts Tomamu

How we got to Hoshino Resorts Tomamu:

  • We arrived from Tokyo into Chitose Airport where we then took the JR Train from New Chitose Airport station to Minami-Chitose station.

  • From there, we transfer to the Super Tokachi Train bringing us to Tomamu Station where Hoshino Resorts Tomamu transfer (bus) was waiting for us.
  • The transfer from Tomamu Station to the resort took less than 5 minutes.

The resort covers a large area which comes with ski slope, Adventure Mountain / Nipo Mountain which caters for the little juniors and those who are not able to ski providing them opportunity to experience ski, Ice Village (only available in Winter), GAO Outdoor Center providing interesting activities for guest of all ages, Mina-Mina Beach where swimming in Winter is available and Kirin-no-Yu a japanese hot spring.

As our time were limited, we started our Day 1 @ Hoshino Resorts Tomamu after checking into our accommodation in The Tower with a wonderful lunch at Vegetable Bandit located in Foresta Mall. This restaurant offers a whole “food of the treasure house Hokkaido” – simple grill steaks served with grilled seasonal vegetables.

After our memorable lunch, we checked out the surrounding area mainly where the ski slopes and Nipo Mountain.

After a short break, we then head off to Mina-Mina Beach for a swim in the warm swimming pool. We decided to give Kirin-no-Yu, the Japanese Hot Spring a pass this trip.

After warming ourselves up, since we were in the same area, we checked out the Ice Village which is only available during the Wintertime. Unfortunately for us, the Ice Village were not entirely ready as it was early winter then, however, we were privileged to be able to check out the Santa House while also experience the bond-fire and roast marshmallow.

Working ourselves to a huge appetite, we ended our Day 1 @ Hoshino Resorts Tomamu with Japanese influenced dinner in Sakura, serving Hokkaido Sushi and Tempura.
