Pan-Fried Pomfret with Caramelized Onion Topping

One of the challenging part about being a temporary SAHM is deciding what to cook for dinner. Especially when there is a picky eater at home. Luckily, I have always enjoyed cooking, although chinese cuisine is never my forte.

I have always find it hard to cook fish at home as I am never good at it. After eating various type of meat on a daily basis, I soon ran out of idea on what else to cook for the night. Hence, I started exploring cooking methods for fish.

Tonight, I decided to cook Pan-Fried Pomfret with Caramelized Onion Topping, adapting slightly the recipe found on – Pan-Fried Pomfret


  • 1 black Pomfret
  • 1 large Onion – sliced thinly
  • 3 slices of ginger, julienne thinly
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • ½ tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 4 tbsp water
  • some Spring Onion for garnishing


  1. Clean fish, pat dry using kitchen towel.Season with salt and pepper
  2. Pan-fried the fish until cook. Dish up
  3. In the pan, add the sesame oil and after it is heated up, add in the ginger. Fry until fragrant. Set aside
  4. Heat the Olive Oil, add the onion and fry until onion is soft. Add in the Soy Sauce and sugar. Continue to fry till onion turned caramelized. Add the 3 tablespoon of water
  5. Add the ginger into the onion sauce prepared
  6. Pour caramelized onion sauce on top of the fish
  7. Garnish with spring onion and served

Note : Pour the prepared caramelized onion sauce just before serving
