I Am a Singer 4 : Hwang Chi Yeul (黄致列)

With all the current hype on the highly popular Korean Military-Medical Drama, Descendants of the Sun (태양의 후예) that is on-going now. I started taking interest when I saw the list of singers lined up for the OST. 90% of the singers lined up for the OSTs are popular singers / group that I am following. From popular veteran like SG Wannabe, Junsu, KWill to younger ones in the likes of Exo. For music lover like me, this is a must have OSTs to add to my collections of cd.

While I was getting all hype up listening to the beautiful OSTs from Descendants of the Sun (태양의 후예), I was introduced to another talented singer, a rising star now after his appearance in I Am A Singer 4 program in China through his version of ‘You Are My Everything‘ with Gummy. After listening to this version of song by Gummy and Hwang Chi Yeul (황치열), known as 黄致列 in China, I am totally taken aback with his deep and yet beautiful voice. This leads to my interest in checking him out and wanting to share his talent today.

Born in Gumi, North Gyeongsang, South Korea, Hwang Chi Yeul is a Korean musician, singer, songwriter and hos to several shows as well as one of the singers who compete in I am A Singer Season 4 in China.

Debuting in 2007, he managed to release two albums within the same year with a digital single album. He also managed to appear in various TV and radio shows for about a year. Unfortunately, he had to disappear from the scene when the management company closed business due to financial difficulties.

His appearance in I Can See Your Voice in March 2015 which became his turning point in his life. It got him invited to participate in many other TV shows. And Hunan TV in China also invited him to participate in I Am a Singer, Season 4.

Although ‘You are My Everything’ duet with Gummy is the strong that caught my attention, after going through all the songs that he had performed in I Am a Singer, Season 4, I found him to be talented and is able to perform various type of music. From fast beat to ballad, he can do it all!

His version of 처음부터 지금까지 (From beginning until now – Winter Sonata OST) was very well performed with him starting with the chinese version made popular by Jeff Chang and followed by a catchy korean version. It was an amazing performance as I especially love the band that accompanied him in the performance.

My favourite performance that he had done so far is his version of 총 맞은 것처럼 (Like being shot by a bullet), made popular by Baek Ji Young. His powerful voice carried the song as well as Baek Ji Young although it carries a different feel to it.

I must indeed convey my thanks to my friend whom introduced me to this talented singer,  Hwang Chi Yeul (황치열). I hope to be able to see his music career goes a long way as I know that I would definitely be one of his supporter and will purchase his cd should he does release any.

    1. You also following the drama, Sutekii? My…. I just started after accidentally watching episode 3 ending so started the drama recently. The ending is this week so hopefully it is not a sad ending or else I might just give up. I am eagerly waiting for the last OST to be released tomorrow. They do have a good list of great OSTs and the line up are really good. All great K-Singers / Group. I Am a Singer I only watch occasionally because of Jeff Chang. Now I got another reason to watch it

    1. Wow seems like I am so outdated now as I only discover him yesterday when my friend sent me the link of him singing with Gummy. Happy to read all the good feedback about him 😉

    1. WC is also a good singer. I finally got my hand on his new album released recently unfortunately only in China to date. Was lucky that a friend coming from Shanghai got it for me. He sings well too.
