Korean Cooking: Korean-Style Braised Pork Ribs

From my recent Korean Cooking: Korean-Style Pork Ribs (Dwaeji Galbi), I actually kept the left over marinate. With the remaining packet of baby back ribs that I have in my freezer, I decided to try using the recipe and change the cooking style to braising it instead. The result turns out better than expected with my boys loving it so much, they had second and third helpings over dinner. What a happy mum I was that night!

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole slab ( 3 – 4 pounds) baby back ribs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 medium red onions, minced finely
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 tablespoon of olive oil

Method:

  1. Prepare the marinate ingredients and mix well
  2. Rinse the ribs and pat dry
  3. Coat the ribs well with marinate. Marinate for at least 6 hours (best if marinate overnight)
  4. In the wok, heat up the 4 tablespoon of olive oil
  5. Sear the ribs on each side for 3 minutes to seal the juice
  6. Pour in the marinate and bring to boil
  7. Turn the heat to medium and braised for 10 minutes
  8. Turn the ribs and continue to braised for another 15 minutes
  9. Turn off the heat and serve hot either with the braise sauce or without
