Korean Cuisine : Spicy Pork Ribs Bulgogi (돼지갈비구이불고기)

Family is getting a little bored with the simple dishes that I have been preparing for dinner recently due to my work schedule. So, since it had been a relaxing weekend, I decided to prepare something more flavorful for dinner.

Found some Gochujang (고추장) in my fridge so decided to prepare a simple grilled dish, Spicy Pork Ribs Bulgogi (돼지갈비구이불고기). This sweet and spicy dish is easy to prepare as I had decided to marinate it and then oven baked it.

  • 500gm pork ribs (생갈비)
  • 1 tablespoon Gochujang, Korean Chili Paste (고추장)
  • 2 tablespoon sugar (설탕)
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce (국간장 )
  • 1 onion (양파) – sliced thinly
  • 2 teaspoon garlic (마늘)
  • 2 teaspoon ginger (생강)
  • 2 tablespoon Cheongju, Korean Rice Wine (청주)

  1. In the pot, bring to boil 1 litre of water. Blanch the pork ribs for about 5 minutes
  2. Mix Gochujang, Korean Chili Paste, sugar, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and Cheongju, Korean Rice Wine together until well blended
  3. Drained the pork ribs and mix into the marinate in No 2
  4. In the baking dish, lined with aluminium foil
  5. Line half of the onions onto the aluminium foil
  6. Line the marinated pork ribs on top of the onions
  7. Top with the remaining onions
  8. Pour the remaining marinate onto the pork ribs
  9. Cover with another piece of aluminium foil
  10. Set aside to marinate for 2 hours minimum
  11. Set the oven to 200c. Bake covered for 20 minutes
  12. Open the top layer of aluminium foil
  13. Increase the temperature to 220c and grill for 10 minutes
  14. Lower the temperature to 180c and grill for another 10 minutes
  15. Serve hot with vegetables of choice

  1. I don’t eat pork. Nope, I’m not Muslim. It’s just a matter of principle. But hey! these photos make me want to run to the nearest Korean Restaurant, which happens to be not so near after all! Maybe pork will finally make its debut in my Mum’s kitchen once she sees this too?! *hopes*
