Chinese Cuisine : Braised Honey Soft Bones

My husband have been requesting for me to test out new recipe. Guess he is tired of the simple steam dishes that I have been preparing recently. Hence today, for dinner, decided to test out something that I have always wanted to try…. Braised Honey Soft Bones it is for dinner then!

A simple dish that is very easy to make. Using what is available in the kitchen, I am very happy that the dish turns out well that goes well served with rice.


  • 500 gm soft bones IMG_6676
  • 5 cloves of garlic – flatten
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
  • 1 cup of Shaoxing wine, chinese cooking wine
  • 4 tablespoon of light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoon of honey
  • 5 cups of water
  • 3 tablespoon of olive oil



  1. Bring 5 cups of water to boil. Blanch the soft bones ribs IMG_6680
  2. Drained and set aside
  3. In the wok, heat up the olive oil
  4. Saute the garlic until fragrant
  5. Add in the drained soft bones
  6. Sear for 2 minutes each sideIMG_6682
  7. Add in the Shaoxing Wine. Braised for 3 minutesIMG_6685
  8. Add in the light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, hoisin and honey. Mix wellIMG_6687
  9. Braised for 30 minutes or until the soft bones are tender and sauce thickened, while stir occasionally
  10. Check the seasoning and adjust accordingly
  11. Remove from heat and serve, garnishing with sesame seeds (optional)
