After our memorable exploration of Namiseom Island (남이섬) we head off to our next destination, The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원). We had originally planned to explore Petite France as well as the stop is along the way to The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원). Unfortunately, as we had spent too much time enjoying our exploration of Namiseom Island (남이섬), we realised that we only had enough time to head off for another stop only for the day. So, The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원), here we come!
Lucky for us, we head out early to the bus stop to wait for the Gapyeong Shuttle Bus to the our next stop, The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원). It was the peak hour for the Shuttle Bus as almost everyone has the same plan as us. As it was the last day of the Light Illumination Festival for 2018, we decided to head straight over as to ensure that we do not miss this great opportunity.
The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) is a 30,000㎡ garden, one of the oldest private garden in Korea. It is an artistic space with beautiful balance of natural curves with asymmetry and plants.
Conceptualised by Professor Han Sang-Kyung of Sahmyook University, Gardening Department, his vision was to create a garden that will spread the concept of Korean beauty throughout the world.
We arrived at The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) early in the evening and realised to our dismay that the last bus heading out of the place would be at 8pm (special timing just for the day due to the Illumination Lighting Event), giving us limited time to explore the place when the Illumination Lights are up. What to do, we could only make the best of the limited time we have then.
To my surprised, I realised that The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) is a popular TV Drama series spot. Some of the popular dramas that were filmed in The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) are:
Movie : The Letter (1997) / Detective K (2015) / Addicted (2002)
Drama : Smile Again (2010) / You’re Beautiful (2009) / A Love to Kill (2005) / Love in the Moonlight (2016)
Variety Show : Infinite Challenge

Our first stop is the Gift shop which sells a lot of the natural stuff. Highly recommended to stop by and check out the natural products available for sale here. I am sure you would be able to find a thing or two. Although Christmas is long over, Snowman and Santa Bear stood outside to welcome you into the Gift Shop.
After the quick stop at the Gift Shop, we finally started our exploration of The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원). Although time were limited, we were privilege to be able to see the beauty of The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) before and after the Illumination Lights.
The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) has beautiful scenic walkways with beautifully manicured grass and flower beds with many different themed sections.
We started with a walk across the bridge. A little scary as the bridge does swing a little especially when you are in the middle of the bridge.
Across the bridge, we started our exploration of The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원).
Some of the highly recommended spot to stop are as below:
Hometown Garden (location spot 5 on the map) is a beautiful and very typical Korean thatched cottage that is surrounded by trees and plants. These are what the Korean people love to plant around their houses.
The Sunken Garden (location spot 18 on the map) is shaped like the Korean Peninsula and is carpeted with flowers on both sides representing the desire for South and North Korea to be reunited. Indeed a very meaningful attractions at the garden. Although when we were there, there were minimal flowers surrounding it (more of a reason why we should return again for another visit in another season), we are awe with the beautiful natural sight ahead of us.
Pond Garden (location spot 22 on the map): A scenic spot of The pavilion, the pond, and trees. A good resting spot after the exploration.
Millennium Juniper (location spot 16 on the map): An elegant juniper that has lived for a thousand years.
Much to our delights, we managed to catch a glimpse of the early blooms of Tulips around The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원).
At around 6 pm, the lights finally lighted up. With The Illumination Lights, The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) becomes a total different sight.
We ended out exploration of The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) at around 7 pm as we were targeting to head back on the 730 pm Shuttle bus to Cheongpyeong Station where we took the ITX back to Seoul ending our exploration for the day.
